How to order
You can order via our online form, using the links at the bottom of this page.
- If you do not already have a Commuter Club Myki card from PTUA, you will receive a new card for free. You can elect whether or not to have your name printed on the card.
- If you already have a Commuter Club Myki card from PTUA, with more than a year until it expires, you can request your new Yearly Pass be loaded onto it.
Payment can be made by direct bank deposit, or credit card. (Credit card includes a surcharge.)
Orders are placed once a month. This restriction is imposed by PTV. You need to order and pay us by the 8th of the month (except December; see below), and the Yearly Pass is normally delivered about two weeks later. Purchases or payments received by us after this date will be processed the following month.
For the December order, which would allow you to travel at this year’s prices during the next year, the deadline is 30 November. This is due to the annual PTV price rise.
We can only place the order for your card if your full payment has cleared by the deadline. Please note this rule is rigidly applied. Unfortunately if the deadline is missed, your order will wait another month.
How your order is processed
If you don’t already have a PTUA Commuter Club Myki card, new cards are normally delivered to your address in the last week of the month that your purchase is processed. If you miss the monthly deadline, that will be the month after you place your order.
If you quoted an existing PTUA Commuter Club Myki card number when you ordered, the new 365-day Pass is normally available for loading onto your existing card around the 20th of the month that your purchase is processed. If you miss the monthly deadline, that will be the month after you place your order.
Note: these are the expected delivery/load dates after our monthly payment to PTV has been cleared – they don’t relate to the date on which you applied for a Commuter Club Myki. We strongly recommend that where possible, you place your order early in the month prior to when the Pass is required.
Using your new Myki card
Once it has been received, your Pass operates from the first time you touch on.
If you are getting a new Yearly Pass on an existing Commuter Club Myki card, it will not activate until after any existing Myki Pass has expired.
The card is registered in your name to protect the balance should the card be stolen or lost, and it allows you to get information regarding your card when you call the Myki helpline (1800 800 007).
Once you have a Commuter Club Myki card it can be operated the same as any other Myki:
- You can top it up with Myki Money for travel in zones not covered by your Pass
- If your Myki Money has a balance below $0.00, you will not be able to use your Pass until the card is topped up.
- You can create an online account to manage your card.
Refunds
If you need a refund before the monthly order has been placed, please let us know as soon as possible at tickets@ptua.org.au. Note that while we can refund the cost of your Commuter Club Myki, the PTUA membership is not refundable.
Once you have received it, the Yearly Pass is refundable pro-rata from PTV under certain circumstances. See the PTV web site for details.
Other points to note
Why is there no Zone 1 only option?
From July 2023, Zones 1 to 15 (including V/Line) applies at the old Zone 1 price.
Zone 2 fares continue to apply for travel that is only within Zone 2 (broadly speaking the middle to outer suburbs of Melbourne, but not the inner city).
What if I already have a normal Myki card? How does a Commuter Club Myki differ?
A Commuter Club Yearly Pass cannot be loaded on to a normal Myki. Commuter Club Mykis are coded to be recognised as Commuter Club, to allow future reloads and to manage refunds. They do not incur the normal $6 card fee. You can only purchase a Commuter Club Myki through the program.
Any registered Myki is allocated to a specific individual. Therefore, your Commuter Club Myki cannot be used for travel by any other person at any time.
If a Commuter Club Myki is damaged, defective, lost or stolen you can apply for the card to be replaced.
For more information about Commuter Club Myki you can view the Myki FAQ pdf (1.2 Mb).
What if I already have a Commuter Club Myki?
You can renew your PTUA Commuter Club Yearly Pass by purchasing another 365-day Pass through PTUA, which will be loaded on to your existing card, providing the card is not due to expire within the next year (Myki cards have a four-year life span).
Passes are loaded electronically to your account around the 20th of the month. You will need to touch on (or check it at a Myki vending machine) to load the Pass onto your card.
A Myki card can have two Passes loaded on it. The new Pass is activated the first time you touch on after the old one expires, and will take precedence over any Myki Money you have loaded. The new Pass will not activate until you touch on, even if your old Pass has expired.
If you have a Commuter Club Myki issued by another organisation, when you apply for a PTUA Commuter Club card you will need a new card which will recognise you as a PTUA Commuter Club traveller.
What about a Commuter Club Yearly for VLine and regional travel?
Passengers with a Myki Pass for Zones 1 to 15 (which have replaced Zone 1+2 Passes) are able to travel throughout Victoria using their Pass, including on V/Line services.
