Navigating the City Loop can be complicated, with different lines running in different directions at different times. Thankfully, the Mernda and Hurstbridge lines were changed to consistent clockwise running in 2013, with the Caulfield Loop tunnel following in 2021 with consistent anti-clockwise running.
These changes make travel a little easier.
What Melbourne really needs is a full review and simplification of service operations to provide consistent, efficient and easy to understand train services.
In the meantime, you can use these maps to help find your way around the Loop and where to interchange between City Loop and Metro Tunnel services.
Remember to check Transport Victoria for service alterations, especially on weekends.
